Welcome to Art and Design
Pupils work within themes to experience a varied and enjoyable selection of two and three dimensional art and design. They explore and work with a range of media, processes and techniques in the realisation of their intentions.
Students who opt for GCSE Art and Design build on the knowledge, skills and understanding established in KS3. The course is designed to encourage students to develop skills, creativity, imagination and independence. Students will experience a wide range of approaches in the use of materials, processes and techniques, responding to briefs and potential outcomes. The assessment consists of one tier covering the ability range grades A*~G/1-9. The GCSE provides the opportunity to develop imagination, intuitive responses based on personal experience, taught skills and understanding that candidates will show through their responses to starting points, client briefs, scenarios or stimuli.
In the Edexcel BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Art and Design pupils are taught over 120 guided learning hours (GLH). It has core, optional specialist and optional generic units.
Pupils complete two core units, and a choice of optional units to reach a total of 120 GLH. This BTEC First Award has units that the school assesses (internal) and a unit that Edexcel sets which is marked by the school and moderated by Edexcel (external).
