Course requirements

In year 10 pupils work on various projects:

Drawing Project

Pupils will be able to practice drawing and design skills in fashion illustration and other product drawing to prepare them for their controlled assessment.

Mood boards

Gain experience of style, imagery and colour co-ordination.

Pattern Cutting

Pupils gain knowledge of how to cut out a pattern for a garment.

Educational Visits

Pupils have opportunity to go to the Clothes show, Paris and museums to gain inspiration for the course.


Pupils will have a chance to make a textiles product and complete a portfolio of work.
Pupils will start their coursework/controlled assessment in year 10/11 and are expected to design and make a textile product. They can make a range of products looking at fashion, interiors and children's toys. The controlled assessment will include an A3 folder supporting the design and development work.


It is essential that pupils remember that an exam is an important part of the course. This will be based on design and manufacturing questions.
Extra time such as lunchtimes and after-school would be required.
Career Opportunities
Fashion designer, buyer, marketing, machinist, embroiderer, textile artist, teacher. Progression to A Level and BTEC courses.
