Sport (BTEC)

The BTEC First Diploma in Sport is available to pupils as an Option at KS4, it involves the study of 2 core units:
  • The body in sport (skeleton, muscles, heart & breathing)
  • Health, safety & injury (risk factors, sporting injuries, includes first aid course & qualification)
Plus 4 specialist units to be chosen from the following list:
  • Practical sport (performing & understanding rules/skills of 2 sports or activities)
  • Practical outdoor & adventurous activities (performing, understanding rules & regulations for 2 outdoor adventurous activities)
  • Psychology for sports performance (developing & preparing mental skills for sport eg. controlling nerves or aggression)
  • Fitness for sports performance (developing fitness testing/training programmes)
  • Nutrition for sports performance (diet required to participate/complete in sport)
  • Lifestyle & sports performance (how sports performance is affected by behaviour & lifestyle factors)
The required number of units must be completed to gain an overall grade for the qualification. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction. All units are assessed and graded by teachers. The BTEC First Diploma is worth four GCSE’s grades A* – C.
