Effort Grades for reports

Effort grades provide a snapshot of how your child’s teachers assess the effort they are putting in to each subject on a scale from 1 (high) to 5 (low). A detailed description of the criteria for awarding each grade can be found below.

Note – Please do not take any of the following factors into the awarding of effort grades.

-          Attendance

-          Punctuality

-          Natural aptitude for the subject

Effort Grade 1

·         You have a very positive attitude towards learning and participate enthusiastically in all aspects of work.

·         You cooperate fully with the class teacher and actively support the learning of others.

·         You have a full homework record with no late, incomplete or missing pieces of work.

·         You always have the appropriate books and equipment expected of you at any time.

·         You are willing and able to take responsibility for your own behaviour.

·         You make a significant contribution towards the establishment of a positive ethos in the classroom.

·         If you make a mistake you always act on it and learn from it.

·         You relish challenges and never give up when they become difficult.

·         You are always kind and respectful to people in your class.

 

Effort Grade 2

·         You have a positive attitude towards learning and participate in all aspects of work.

·         You cooperate with the class teacher and, as directed, support the learning of others.

·         You have a full homework record with at most one or two late but no incomplete or missing pieces of work.

·         You usually have the books and equipment expected of you at any time.

·         You are polite and respectful towards all adults and fellow students.

·         You respond positively to correction in response to isolated incidents of inadequate behaviour.

·         If you make a mistake you mostly act on it and learn from it.

·         You tackle challenges positively and rarely give up when they become difficult.

·         You are usually kind and respectful to people in your class.

 

Effort Grade 3

·         Your attitude towards learning occasionally dips below expectations and at times there are aspects of work where you fail to participate fully.

·         You can cooperate with the class teacher and, with supervision, can work effectively with others in the group.

·         You have an incomplete homework record with late, incomplete or missing pieces of work.

·         At times you do not have the books and equipment needed to support your learning.

·         You are at times impolite or disrespectful towards others.

·         You respond appropriately to correction in response to incidents of inadequate behaviour.

·         If you make a mistake you sometimes act on it and learn from it.

·         You will have a go when asked to tackle something challenging but will sometimes give up.

·         You are sometimes kind and respectful to people in your class. 

 

Effort Grade 4

·         Your attitude towards learning is often below expectations and you consistently fail to participate in aspects of your work as fully as possible.

·         At times you can be uncooperative with the class teacher and you can often fail to work effectively with others in the group.

·         You have a poor homework record, with many late, incomplete or missing pieces of work.

·         You often do not have the books and equipment needed to support your learning.

·         You can be impolite, disrespectful or challenging towards others.

·         You can respond inappropriately to correction in response to incidents of inadequate behaviour.

·         If you make a mistake you rarely act on it and learn from it. 

·         You give up quickly when faced with a challenge. 

·         You are rarely kind and respectful to people in your class.

 

Effort Grade 5 – Major Cause for Concern

·         Your attitude towards learning is always below expectations and you consistently fail to participate in aspects of your work as fully as possible.

·         You are very often uncooperative with the class teacher and you can regularly fail to work effectively with others in the group.

·         You have a very poor homework record, with many late, incomplete or missing pieces of work.

·         You consistently do not have the books and equipment needed to support your learning.

·         You are consistently impolite, disrespectful or challenging towards others.

·         You consistently respond inappropriately to correction in response to incidents of inadequate behaviour.

·         If you make a mistake you do not act on it and learn from it. 

·         You give up before tackling a challenge. 

·         You are very rarely kind or respectful to people in your class. 

 

Year 11 Post 16 Offers

The academy needs to inform Birmingham LEA of the post 16 offers that Year 11 students have for September this information has to be submitted by 7th April. Students have been advised that they should have an aspirational offer and a back-up plan should the first option not be successful. Students should bring details of offers made outside of Greenwood academy Sixth Form (e-mail confirmations can be sent to Mr Cheese, Mr Williams of Mrs Hancock).

Drug Talks for Year 7: 13th March 2017

On Monday 13th March Year 7 students are due to receive a talk from representatives of ‘Drug Free World’. The aim of this is to make also students aware of the potential risks and dangers of both legal and illegal drugs. The talks will take place during P4 and 5. Mr Cheese

Year 8 Enterprise Days

Year 8 will be working with Enabling Enterprise over two days this half term. The Focus will be the development of vital enterprise and employability skills that students will need when they enter the world of work. The theme will be ‘Moon Base’. 8A/8B/8C will be on Friday 10th March in the main hall from P1-4. 8CD/8E/8F will be having their session on 24th March P1-4.
