Dear Parent or Carer,

Re: Post 16 – 19 provision at Greenwood Academy

In response to significant parent and student demand for high quality Post 16 provision in Castle Vale, The Academies Enterprise Trust and members of the Greenwood Academy Management Board are opening a period of formal consultation on the proposal to open a 200 place 6th Form at the academy.

The Academies Enterprise Trust and members of the Greenwood Academy Management Board are opening a period of formal consultation on the proposal to open a sixth form at the Academy.

The consultation will focus on two strands of the sixth form proposal:

Strand One: Change of Age Range

To develop a sixth form provision at Greenwood Academy, proposed to open in September 2014 and to admit internal students only for the first year of operation.

Strand Two: Change of Admissions

To extend the proposed sixth form provision at Greenwood Academy to admit both internal and external students by September 2015.

In light of the above, it has been decided that there should be a period on consultation which will run from Monday 4 December 2013 to Wednesday 12 February 2014. The consultation will involve Parents, Students, Local Government Officials and other interested stakeholders. A public meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th December at 6.00pm in the Academy’s Main Hall. A copy of the Post 16 Consultation document can be downloaded from the Greenwood Academy website at www.greenwoodacademy.org or will be available at Greenwood Academy reception.

In summary we believe that the provision of a sixth form would offer our students the following educational benefits:
  • To provide an outstanding Post 16 academic education with a relentless focus on A levels, applied and vocational education.
  • To extend choice, to raise aspirations and to improve Post 16 participation rates and attainment by providing continuity from our 11-16 provision with clear progression routes to the highest quality university courses.
  • To significantly reduce the number of Castle Vale (Greenwood Academy) students who do not complete further education and fall into NEET categories
  • To fulfil the overwhelming demand from our students and their parents/carers to continue their education Post 16 in their successful local academy. This proposal will offer our students and their parents/carers the option of school based sixth form provision in the local area
  • To provide a curriculum model that enables young people to access advanced level study when attitude and aptitude suggests they are ready to do so
  • To develop our work with our feeder primary schools so that we create a structured approach to progression at all stages including higher education
  • To provide an excellent 11-18 education provision for our students working within our ASD Base who currently enjoy the benefit of a good all round education provision within their own zone within the Academy
  • To improve the quality of partnership working with local organisations, particularly focusing on preparing young people for the world of work or higher education
  • To recruit and retain outstanding teachers at Greenwood Academy.
We welcome any views regarding this proposal by the deadline date of 13th January 2014. If you wish to make additional comment on the proposal, a copy of the response form can be downloaded from the Academy website or will be available at Greenwood Academy reception.

Completed response forms should be sent to:
