BBC presenter Andy Akinwolere to lead judging panel for 7th consecutive community competition, with “more family entries than any previous year,” to be hosted by Greenwood Academy.
Castle Vale’s Got Talent (CVGT) is back for its seventh consecutive year, with the competition’s grand finale to be held at Greenwood Academy on Wednesday 29th March – between 6:30pm to 9pm.
All money raised by the annual Castle Vale’s Got Talent competition is invested back into community projects for the Tyburn Ward.
Performers of all ages will be competing for a series of prizes – including professional recording time at the Milico affiliated Summerfield Studios, alongside a cash award from local business & CVGT patrons.
Leading the judging panel for CVGT 2015 will be BBC presenter Andy Akinwolere (Blue Peter, Great British Bake Off, Inside Out).
Of the 23 acts performing in the CVGT 2015 final there are, 15 singers or singing groups, 6 dance troupes, 1 family band, 1 magician – with nearly ¾ of the performers coming from the wider community, alongside a strong body of entrants from Greenwood Academy itself.
CVGT organisers have also reported “more family entries than any previous year”, with a number of groups entered made up of close family members.
One family group to make it into the CVGT final are Skye’s the Limit – a father & daughter duo, with dad Ste McVeigh singing alongside 9 year old Skye McVey.
Ste McVey* has followed and supported the CVGT competition for several years (even entering a few as a solo singer) and was asked by his daughter Skye if they could enter this year’s competition together. Ste’s brother, Daniel McVey*, is also a CVGT 2015 finalist.
“Skye has watched me and her uncle (Daniel McVey) have fun with this talent show for a number of years,” says Ste McVey, “and now she’s old enough too, she wanted get enter as well.
I was chuffed she asked to sing with her dad, and so proud that we’ve been selected for the final. It’s a great thing to do as a family; a real moment for us to remember. CVGT is a great community event and we’re all really looking forward to the final show.”
Over the years, many Castle Vale’s Got Talent contestants have gone on to pursue serious careers in the arts & entertainment industries – using the local but established competition as a stepping stone to professional performing.
Last year’s winner, actress/singer Laura Green*, recently graduated from the Ormiston Drama School in Birmingham. Laura will also be on the judging panel for the CVGT 2015 final.
Other previous winners of Castle Vale’s Got Talent include local singer Michael Hayes*, who was subsequently picked up by Sony Records, and dance protégé Jak Tuite Leach* who recently won £250,000 in the SKY TV talent show Got to Dance.
Speaking about Castle Vale’s Got Talent, Trevor Evans*, Greenwood Academy’s Communities Manager & CVGT organiser/compère says: “It’s a huge community event, with entrants from all over the Tyburn Ward and wider city taking part. This year, for the 2015 event, we have more family entries than any previous year – which is going to make for a fantastic final on 29th April.
Greenwood Academy are proud to host Castle Vale’s Got Talent ;it’s one of those events people of all ages and stages can really enjoy. And whilst many of the contestants take part just for fun and the experience, each year there are a few exceptional entrants that get their chance to shine.”
After the CVGT 2015 final show, a selection of entrants will be going on the Castle Vale’s Got Talent Tour – visiting & performing for local people who could not attend the 29th April event, such as primary schools, old people’s homes, community centres & local action groups.
Castle Vale’s Got Talent 2015 will be held at Greenwood Academy on 29th April – between 7pm and 9pm in the main school hall.
Tickets are £2 each, with no age restrictions, and available to purchase from the Greenwood Academy school office, or by ringing (0121) 464 6101
