Dear Parent/Carer

As the end of term rapidly approaches I am writing to update you over a number of relevant issues that hopefully will be of interest to you.

Important dates

  • Firstly, this term concludes at 3.05 pm on Thursday 28th March.  The new school term begins on Monday 15th April.
  • Please be aware that school will also be closed to students on Friday 3rd May as staff will be engaged in professional training and on Monday 6th May which is a Bank Holiday.
  • The Whitsun half term week from Monday 27th May to Friday 31st May inclusive.
  • The summer term ends on Tuesday 23rd July 2013.
  • We do have one more inset day and this will take place in the second half of the summer term, I will let you know as soon as this has been arranged.

School uniform

Once into the Summer Term we will complete our consultation over School Uniform for September.  You have previously had my reassurances that we will ensure that any changes are both affordable and practical.

Staffing changes

The end of this term will see us say farewell to Mrs Fitzpatrick (ASD Teacher and ASD Centre Manager), Mr Bhayat (Teaching Assistant), Mr Kureczko (Teacher), Mr Coleman (Teacher) and Mr Johnson (Faculty Leader The Arts).  I am sure you would wish to join me in thanking them all for their commitment to the school.

Starting after Easter, Mrs Parker will be SENCO and Ms Paradine will be in charge of the ASD base.

Refurbishment of facilities

You will be pleased to hear that as a result of becoming an AET Academy we have accessed some funding to improve flooring throughout the school, upgrading standards of hygiene in the student toilets and the provision of some covered outdoor space.

Raising standards further at Greenwood Academy

Please be aware that our drive to improve standards at the school continues.  Our staff training day on Friday 3rd May is specifically aimed at improving Teaching and Learning.  I also remain committed to improving standards of behaviour and continue to expect your support over this.

I am also optimistic that I will be able to report on further examination successes for our Year 11 students early in the new term.

By way of conclusion, I would simply wish to say how much I have enjoyed working at Greenwood Academy this term, and I am very proud to be associated with the school.  We are seeking to appoint a new Headteacher by the end of April and I would expect to work alongside the successful candidate for the next 12 to 24 months.

With every best wish for an enjoyable Easter Break.

Yours sincerely

Simon Turney
