Dear Parents and Carers
Re: Changes to Timetables
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you Happy New Year and hope that you had a good festive break.
The curriculum on offer to students here at Greenwood Academy has developed enormously since June 2013. In order for us to maximise student progress and take full advantage of the improvements in teaching it has been necessary to introduce a new Timetable.
Some of the improvements are as follows:
  • Year 7 Accelerate groups, focused on improving students literacy and numeracy on transition from Primary School
  • Additional Year 8 and Year 9 Literacy and Numeracy lessons for the students who require the most support to access the curriculum
  • GCSE Options begin in Year 9 giving students more time to achieve and a more focused use of curriculum time and opportunities to accelerate our most able
  • Year 10 EBACC students studying Triple Science will be given additional time and stretched and challenged more
  • Year 11 students who are at risk of underachieving can now be targeted effectively through timetabled structured intervention and support
  • All students will have timetabled access to mentoring and Careers, Advice and Guidance as well as being able to access a pro-active work and life skills course designed to improve students personal wellbeing and employment skills
  • Work experiences will now be available in Years 9, 10 and 11
In addition to this, we always assess student progress at this point in the year and match teacher and teaching groups more closely to their specific needs. This may mean that for some students that they will have a new teacher from Monday 20th January 2014. In addition to the changes noted above we will be returning to a two week timetable, with week commencing 20th January starting as a week one. Your child will be issued with a new timetable in school in readiness for this start date.
Please note that the timings of the school day have not changed and your child is invited to enjoy a breakfast here at the Academy from 8.15am onwards.
We anticipate this will be a smooth transition and a positive outcome where change has happened.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the academy either by telephone or email and we will get an appropriate member of staff to call you.
Yours sincerely
Harry French
