Letter to Parents - Citizenship Awareness Week

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Citizenship Awareness Week

Throughout this week our Year 11 students will be staging a Citizenship Awareness Week – a series of events & activities to combat discrimination on issues including homelessness, sexuality, race, religion and immigration. The planning behind this week forms part of the student’s GCSE assessment.

A full five day programme of events has been planned (see enclosed schedule) that encourage a greater understanding of these often misunderstood issues; the first of which is homelessness, with speakers from St Basils, Birmingham talking to our students about how to prevent youth homelessness.

In response to this extremely serious issue Year 11 students are running a collection of tinned goods that will be donated to St Basils. If students or their families would like to donate, please bring the canned goods to the academy reception on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.

If you have any questions about the Citizenship Awareness Week, or our Citizenship work in general, please contact Miss Smith through the school’s reception on 0121 4646101.

Yours sincerely,

Harry French
Principal
