28th November 2014

Dear Parents / Carers,

Recent Greenwood Academy Ofsted Inspection

You will be aware that we underwent our first Section 5 Ofsted Inspection as Greenwood Academy on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th November 2014.

I am very pleased to announce that Greenwood Academy has been rated by Ofsted as Good in all aspects of provision including our new 6th Form.

We are extremely pleased with the outcome particularly the many outstanding features identified by the inspection team in particular that:

‘Students make outstanding progress in English and achievement is rising quickly in Mathematics and other subjects’

‘The good behaviour of students in the academy is clearly linked to much higher expectations by leaders, improvements in the quality of teaching and learning, in the curriculum, more generally, in the support that students receive’

‘High expectations and the provision of high levels of professional support ensure that the quality of teaching is improving at a pace that enables students to make good progress’

‘The provision for disabled students and those who have special educational needs and for students who face challenging circumstances is exceptional’

‘The academy’s commitment to developing the employability skills, aspirations and values of its students is impressive’

We are now one of the only Ofsted rated Good schools in the area; this is an excellent step forward and representative of the quality of education provided by the school at this time. We have achieved our short term goal but strive for more for your young people. We are resolute in our determination to provide you with an Outstanding school in the future and very much look forward to working with you to achieve this.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for the numerous messages of support, students for their excellent conduct and honesty and staff for their hard work during what was a challenging but rewarding period.

I am pleased to enclose a copy of the report with this letter for you to read through at your own leisure. If you wish to download an electronic copy of the report you can do so by visiting our website www.greenwoodacademy.org

If you have any queries or would like to meet to discuss the contents of the report in person, please do not hesitate to contact the academy on 0121 4646101.

Yours Sincerely,

Harry French
Principal
