Sensational GCSE Results

posted 23 Aug 2013, 02:30 by Rob Jukes

Sensational GCSE results.

In our first year as Greenwood Academy 53% of students achieved 5 A*C including English and Mathematics representing a 15% increase on 2011/12 results.

This sensational result is testament to the incredible young people of Castle Vale who have unequivocally proven that they have the ability, mentality and desire to overcome, in some cases extremely challenging personal circumstance to achieve personal success.

Our teachers have worked tirelessly with our students; Maths outcomes improved with 55% of students achieving a C grade or better and a remarkable 83% of students achieved a grade C or better in English including 24 A or A* grades. Whilst much emphasis is placed on the performance of Maths and English, there were also some excellent results in non-core subjects; my thanks goes to all staff for their hard work and on-going commitment.

There were some excellent individual student performances. Of particular note are Simi Oke, Antonia Sloan, Ellie O’Brian and Agnes Gruszczynska who all achieved more than 10 A grades. Jack Silk achieved 4 A grades and Leah Leach, Philip Cornish and Charlotte Hollinshead all achieved more than one A grade. These students have achieved their very impressive results alongside others who through their hard work, commitment and tenacity met or exceeded their target grades. We are incredibly proud of your achievement and wish you every success in the future.

In total, 37 students at the Academy achieved at least one grade A or A*, which represents 23% of the year 11 cohort. An incredible 96% of students achieved 5 A*C or equivalent qualifications an increase of 10% on 2011/12 results. Furthermore, 16[AW1] % of students gained qualifications which combined, gain an EBac (English Baccalaureate).

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to parents for keeping their faith in Greenwood Academy through some challenging and difficult times. This is a significant step toward our goal of providing you an outstanding school that you can be confident in, and proud of; a school at the heart of the community.
