Strike Action - Tuesday 1st October

Dear Parent / Carer

Strike Action – Tuesday 1st October 2013

We have been informed by the NUT and NASUWT that they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Tuesday 1st October. This action is not against the Academy itself, but is part of national industrial action organised by these trade unions about changes to the teacher pension schemes of their members and changes to teachers pay and conditions.

A significant number of teaching staff will be participating and will not be present in school leaving a large number of classes without supervision and I cannot, therefore, guarantee the health and safety of students if they were to be present on that day.

We have taken the decision that Greenwood Academy will therefore be closed to all students on Tuesday 1st October 2013.

Students should carry on with their studies on this day, either continuing work already set, researching topics, working online (I am Learning for example), or revising for any upcoming examinations they might have.

I should also advise you that all staff, other than those specifically involved in the proposed industrial action, will be required to report for work on that day.

I apologise for the relatively short notice and also for any difficulties that this may cause, but I believe that arrangements proposed represent the safest and most sensible way of proceeding. The school will open as normal on Wednesday, 2nd October 2013.

Yours sincerely,

Harry French
Principal
