Uniform Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

We at the academy want students to take pride in their appearance and their identity within the school community.  A business like uniform, we believe, will give our students the confidence and self-esteem to develop positive attitudes towards their learning.

Following on from the discussions that I have had with parents, I would like to open a period of consultation for the new Academy Uniform.

I would like students to wear a simple, flexible, practical and inexpensive uniform which also looks smart.  As you are aware, we have had several consultations over the last six months including informal discussions with stakeholders and preliminary consultations suggest that parents, staff and students would like the Academy uniform to consist of:

  • Black blazer with academy badge *
  • Black trousers for both boys and girls, with girls having the option of a black skirt
  • White shirt
  • Tie with coloured stripes
  • Black shoes
  • Plain black socks
  • Optional black V neck jumper

PE Kit for both Boys and Girls

  • Black Shorts
  • Black Polo Shirt with green trim
  • Optional Black Track suit trousers
  • Optional Black Fleece
  • Trainers
  • Black socks

*the badge will also be available for any parent who wishes to purchase this separately.

You will be aware that we have funding for the first batch of the new uniform from AET, and it is our intention to secure a cost effective uniform bundle.  I would like to reassure parents and carers that the uniform choice that we make in consultation, will be one which will allow parents to purchase standard items such as the shirts and the blazer at an affordable price from a variety of retailers. We intend to seek students’ views through the school council, advisory group discussions and assemblies.  Staff will also contribute their views through various discussions.

Through the last newsletter I requested that parents could email into the school any comments regarding the new uniform using the Please take this opportunity to send me your views.   I will however, be inviting you in during the summer term to hold an informal discussion session for any parents who wish to contribute their views personally.

I would also invite you to contact any of my senior leaders or your child’s Head of Year if you would like to raise any issues or concerns.  I want this to be a positive change and I am looking forward to working together with you during this process.

Yours sincerely

Simon Turney
