Dear Parent/Carer,

Parent & Options Evening Thursday 14th November 2013 from 4.00pm

Over the course of this half term students currently in Year 9 will be asked to select the courses that they would like to study from January 2014 into Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11). We would like to ensure that your son or daughter has all of the information that they need in order to make these very important decisions.

There will be a parents evening for all Year 9 students and parents/carers on Thursday 14th November starting at 4.00pm. An Options Fair and Options Presentation will be available throughout the evening until 7.00pm in the Academy Hall, Small Hall and Canteen Area.

In addition to teacher consultations, students will be able to access subject specific information and see examples of work at an Options Fair which will be taking place concurrently in the Canteen Area.

Ms Shaw, Assistant Principal and I will be repeating a short presentation about the curriculum offer, the options process and the issues that students should consider when making their decisions, throughout the evening in the Small Hall.

In addition to the Parent and Options Evening, during November, students will be able to take part in taster lessons for Foundation Year and Key Stage 4 courses, giving them an opportunity to experience the subjects; this is particularly important for those ‘new’ subjects that they have not studied before. Furthermore students will be given access to a wide range of subject specific information via the Academy Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as well as individual consultation meetings with Senior Staff leading up to the Options Deadline on Friday 29th November 2013.

We strongly advise that students and parents/carers should attend this meeting so that they are fully informed and well supported in making these important decisions.

Thank you for you continued support.
