Aims of the Subject
This course aims to prepare students for study of English Language, Linguistics or English Studies in Higher Education. It also allows students to develop skills such as critical reading, data analysis, evaluation, the ability to develop and sustain arguments and a number of different writing skills which are invaluable for both further study and future employment.
Offering clear skills progression from GCSE, this course allows students to build on the skills already gained and prepare for their next steps. You will study how language use can change depending on social group, region, occupation, gender and ethnicity. You will also investigate how children acquire language, both in written and spoken form. In addition, you will examine how language has changed over time, and how it is used differently all over the world.
