Entry Requirements

Greenwood Academy Sixth Form is open to all students who wish to study A Levels and continue their education beyond Year 11 in a successful, stable and familiar environment. You already have excellent relationships with the staff at Greenwood Academy and during your transition from year 11 to 6th form we will provide you with support to ensure that your experience at A level is a positive one.

There is a rigorous application process for all students who wish to join Greenwood Academy. The process begins with an initial Sixth Form Open Evening in the Autumn Term where students will have the opportunity to collect the Sixth Form Prospectus and find out more information about the subjects they would like to study at Advanced level. From 2015, students from other schools are welcome to apply to join Greenwood Academy Sixth Form. If you are interested, please call one of our team for advice and complete the enquiry form which will be available from November 2014.

Our basic entry requirements are a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Mathematics. However, entry requirements for specific courses vary across the different subjects offered; please see the Curriculum Guide for subject specific details.

Please note: if you have not been awarded a grade C at GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics you will be expected to retake the examination to achieve a grade C. Some of these lessons may occur after school.

As part of your preparation for 6th form life you will be expected to complete the “Summer prep pack.” In this pack there is an assignment for each of the AS subjects you wish to take in September. The assignments may take up to 5 hours to complete and it’s composition will depend on the nature of the AS level subject eg..In English it could take the form of research for a test or preparation for a presentation or writing an essay.

Towards the end of September you will be assessed in each of your AS level subjects and at the end of September a decision will be made as to your suitability for the course.
